Welcome back to The Sunday List, where I set you up to have the perfect Sunday that will usher in a week full of productivity, ease, and fun. If you live on the East Coast, you and I have just experienced a record-breaking heat wave. If you live anywhere else in the country, be so very grateful you missed this piece of history. However, regardless of where you live, summer is here, and it's time to cool off.

I’m a firm believer in finding access to water during the summer season. Living in Atlanta does not give me direct access to any beach or lake; oftentimes, a drive to Savannah, Florida, or Charleston is required to access a body of water, but I'm fortunate enough to have access to a pool, and it does wonders for my mental health. Taking a swim at a local pool, water park, lake, or beach is an instant boost of serotonin. Studies show that being near or in water can lower blood pressure and stress levels. So, if it is above 80 degrees where you are, I highly suggest packing a quick lunch and heading out the door!

Don’t forget your sunscreen!

Can’t stress this enough, everyone needs to wear sunscreen. Here are two amazing Black owned sunscreen brands to try out:

  1. Black Girl Sunscreen is a gem and was my first introduction to sunscreen! No white caste and gives a beautiful glow. What I love most about the brand is that they also carry a line for kids.

  2. Cay Skin, I love the lip balm. There are so many different shades to choose from, and it has SPF 30!

Personally, after lounging by the pool all day, I’m a bit worn out from the sun, so don’t feel bad if you take a midday nap. Post-nap requires a quick, simple, yet refreshing dinner. After dinner,  if I'm not catching up on a show or book, I'm listening to music with a glass of wine or cocktail. I’ve always enjoyed dancing in my apartment, listening to jazz, classical, or old school soul music. Nina Simone and Stevie Wonder are usually my go-to, but I’ve been listening to Jon Batiste's Beethoven Blues since it was released in December. Even if you aren’t a classical enthusiast, I promise you will fully enjoy this body of work. It isn’t just a rendition of Beethoven’s most critically acclaimed pieces; Batiste reimagines and shows the connection between classical and other genres. Genres such as gospel and jazz. Listening to this album is a deeply personal and profound experience to end the night.

I hope your week is better than the last.
